Subject:
(tennis elbow): using the proper swing, and stretching exercises
Eric, I have two suggestions, both from the experience of others. But both
of these actions are hard to describe in words. First, be sure you are
swinging your hammer correctly -- not with your elbow tight to your side but
with your elbow and hand swinging free and fluidly as though you were
thowing a ball. Others with more experience can offer better advice on the
swing. Second, when your arm is feeling tight after a few hours of
swinging, you can stretch it out. Secure a rope (on a beam in your studio?
Caught in the top of your van or truck door?), wrap it around your hand so
that the rope leads from the bottom of your wrist, and then lean back so
that your entire body is supported by your arm. That will stretch out your
arm, and perhaps assist you with your problem. (Even if it doesn't, it
still feels good!)
Tracy Powell (if he is following this thead) can provide more suggestions on
the proper swing, as certainly can many others as well.
