Quoted text begins.Anyway, over the last 10 months I have been working on my first
Indiana limestone sculpture.

Hi there Troy-- welcome to the family.

That Indiana stone is some nice carving stuff.-- I too have heard that it
gets harder once out of the ground. Infact a lot of stone does that.
However, I would'nt be too concerned about it. One of my out door
sculptures was carved from a billet of Indiana that was most likely
quarried in the 20's and shipped down here to a Texas Mill. That mill had
not been in operation since before the depression, and I scored the block
from the crew that was doing site clean up for a sub division. Scored a
couple of real nice Cordova Creme blocks also--stuff that the current
quarry can't come close too in quality. Any way, it was old stone, and the
carving of the sculpture took a couple of years also, (I sculpt part time-
full time architectural carver) , and it didn't present any problems. Of
course our Texas climate is not quite as rough as yours, so I would suggest
throwing a tarp over the piece to keep it dry, and you shouldn't have any
trouble when you get back to work on it.
A link to my Indiana piece is : http://www.wacoartsfest.org/sculpture/ if
you or anyone else is interested. Was one of 9 selected for the show. (
only 3 were stone pieces -just a warning to you stone chauvinists who frown
on anything not stone being posted on the list LOL)
And btw, I too have a background in Geology--BS Baylor Univ. 1968.
Again Welcome
John VanCamp
