Rust
Hi Clive,
I don't know your exact situation or color of stone but maybe you could
contact an industrial gasket supplier. These suppliers can supply rubber
gasket material in sheet form that will last until the next iceage. I have
seen red, black and white rubber sheeting of varying thickness. This stuff
can prevent seepage of oxides and not dry and crack over time. If you let
the sales staff at these places know what your problem is, they can point
you in the right direction.
Able Gasket in Toronto, Canada is the supplier I have used over the years
for my industrial work.

Incidentally, there is a bridge in my hometown constructed of this material.
The planners suggested that this kind of material would be graffiti free.
It is, the paint has a hard time sticking and staying. The graffiti can be
wirebrushed off no problem. Everytime I drive over this bridge I cringe.
It's always rusty.
Good Luck,
John
