Anybody interested? Yes, absolutely...
Hello,
I have been following this thread with interest, agreeing with Tim and
some of the others, that, artists in general should be studying other
mediums rather than focusing only on stone.
Since subscribing to the Stonelist, I have been reluctant to take part
in discussions relating to metal unless it involves working with
stone, understanding that this list is not just an artists' resource,
but also a resource for professionals working in stone and anybody
with an interest in stone. Maybe the Stonelist has been evolving
into something different. A while back there was concern over some of
the more knowledgeable and seasoned stoneworkers unsubscribing due to
the course that a lot of the discussion was taking.
Working with stone is a discipline which takes years to become
proficient at, as well as working with every other medium is its' own
individual discipline. That's why there are not so many people that
make the crossover from medium to medium.
To start talking about another medium opens the door to discussions
about all mediums. For example, when at a gallery in Europe, I saw a
lovely quilted fabric piece protesting certain current political
situations. Not too sure if that is what everybody wants to read
about, so I'll try to keep my enthusiasm for this piece to a dull
roar. Please note the heavy slathering of sarcasm.
I don't want to dampen anybody's enthusiasm or step on any toes but
this is where I come to learn about stone.

John A. Klassen
