Nicely said Tim, thank you. I too see a small percentage of figurative
stone carving going on. Much of that is due to the difficulty of the
task and the years of experience nessessary to do it well. I agree
that all mediums have something to offer us as we explore stone.

Unfortunately I see a lot of poorly done figurative sculpture in both
stone and bronze. It is no wonder the fall from favor figurative
sculpture has seen in the past hundred years. Lack of education is
also to blame. There are so few teachers. So everyone just forges
ahead and does the best they can.

Then beside technical or compositional questions, there is the reason
behind the sculpture, what it is intending to express that makes up
the essence of the piece. It makes the mastery of it all a life time
pursuit. Perhaps one needs a life time as you will note there many
young music virtuosos, but few in the stone carvers history.

So swing away and let the chips fall where they may.
