End of quote.
Artists can learn from one another if open to learning - even when
frustrated by so much that is less than wonderful in our eyes, there are
lessons to be learned from those objects as well. There are two sides
to carving - the artistic side and the technical side. While we may be
able to make due with the techniques we have already learned there is no
such thing as learning everything. That is why this stone list is a
wonderful tool for sculptors as well as masons. As for the artistic
side - if we become static and just look at our own thoughts as
reflected in the stone, how can we grow in our work? I think it can be
helpful to see how others have handled the same issues we have dealt
with. Unfortunately, even for stone folks who, by nature need a certain
amount of patience, surfing the internet for another's work, which is
appealing, can be a time consuming endeavor. If there seems an attitude
of inappropriateness to this list, I have an empty yahoo list for
sculpture where we could discuss the sites and debate over the art -
