Pieta Del Duomo
Dear Norman Elle and Tom,
Norman & Elle you are both too kind.
Tom, whilst I acknowledge that the US Tax payers and Norman's employers
could draw the same conclusion as you I think it is very short sighted
indeed. A smart employer would do well to analyse the benefits that Norman's
focused net activity can bring to the performance of his core duties.
A happy, excited, enthusiastic worker is often a very productive worker.
Some years ago a scientific research institution had me give a lecture to
all their scientists on the strategies that artist's use to solve problems,
invent new solutions and ask questions that other people may not think of.
Evidently it was so successful that I had to give a modified version of it
as a key note address to the annual conference for all such institutions in
that industry.
When I first started lecturing some 30 years ago it was very common for
members of all sorts of faculties to interact, I sense that this has
diminished considerably since, my hunch is that we all are intellectually
worse of for it.
